Slate Magazine, that leftist bastion of intellectual emptiness, has found a pathetic liberal Jewish apologist that believes that peace in the Middle East will come when Israel is pressured.

I have never met this man. I do not ever care to do so.
The title of the column is as odious as it is misguided: “How to Lean on Israel.”
This self-loathing lemming truly believes that the best Presidents on Israel have been the ones that have bullied Israel into submission.
Jimmy Carter gets credit for the Israel-Egypt peace agreement of 1979. The situation between these nations is not a true peace. It is a cold peace. Egyptian promises of bilateral trade have never been fully realized. Egypt cracks down on Palestinian arms smugglers only when international pressure gets too great.
George Herbert Walker Bush is lionized for the peace agreement between Israel and Jordan. Again, this peace is not what the United States shares with Canada.
There is no peace in the Middle East. There are breaks between wars. The reason why there is no peace is because Israel is not allowed to do anything and everything necessary to defend itself. Now that George W. Bush has left the world stage, Israel is in trouble.
The notion that Israel’s closest supporters have made matters worse is idiotic. Does anybody think that Jimmy Carter created peace? Israel winning military victories is what brought temporary respite. A permanent respite will be had when complete, total, and uncompromising brute force is met on Israel’s enemies until they break.
Jacob Weisberg should be talking about forcing Palestinians to keep their own promises. Asking Palestinians to maintain integrity is like asking Lesbians to marry men. The concept of Palestinian integrity is an oxymoron. Palestinians have been 100% consistent in breaking their word.
Ronald Reagan and George W. Bush are criticized as having “encouraging Israel’s worst tendencies.”
Worst tendencies? The right to stay alive is a bad tendency?
This issue is so simplistic. Ask the Palestinians to recognize Israel’s right to exist. Wait a few seconds until they refuse this request as unreasonable. Then let Israel go in and break these savages.
Peace is impossible when one side defiantly refuses the right of the other side to live.
Israel supporters to not “build up Arab resentment.” Arab thugocrats build up Arab resentment. Israel is an excuse for them to deflect from their own failed policies. Yassir Arafat was offered a state. He chose terror instead. The Palestinians had a chance at democracy. They elected Hamas. They chose terror.
Benjamin Netanyahu is described as having a “dangerous fixation” on striking Iran.
What this liberal apologist calls a dangerous fixation is what normal human beings call a reasonable fear based on the behavior of the Iranian murderer Armageddonijad himself.
It is bad enough that Israel has to live surrounded by barbaric animals bent on wanton destruction.
We don’t need to compound the problem by offering weak and pathetic surrender advice under the guise of tough love. Liberal Jews don’t know a d@mn thing about toughness. Israel exists because soldiers defend the state. Those soldiers are not liberals, not by a long shot.
My father did not escape the Nazis so that Jacob Weisberg could help our enemies repeat the process.
Thank God Benjamin Netanyahu is Prime Minister and not Jacob Weisberg. I have hope that Israel will continue to exist, despite the fact that too many liberal Jews are the best friends that Arab enemies could ever ask for.

You don’t even mention the settlements here. That’s the main problem these days. That’s what’s inspiring Palestinian violence, regardless of whether or not it’s a proper reaction. And this ridiculous vitriol you’re displaying! You mentioned your father escaping the Nazis - well, the Nazis used many of the same rhetoric you’re using here: ‘liberal Jews are to blame for failed policies and are a danger to the state,’ and refering to people as “animals.” Same rhetoric - to a tee. You need to tone it down. There will never be peace in the Middle East until people start to tone down the over-the-top rhetoric. Just because someone does something bad, that doesn’t mean you should. That’s moral equivication. And it’s typical conservatism. Some people do something bad and conservatives say, “Well, they do it! We have to do it too!” Conservatism tells us that we should lower our standards to those who hate us or unfairly compete with us rather than to help others to raise their standards to ours, by example, assistance, advice, or just good ol’ altruism. Your advice to Israel is to behave more like the people you yourself call “barbaric animals.” Don’t you see the hypocrisy there?

As Netanyahu correctly pointed out the attacks started long before the settlements. In fact Palestinians were granted a state in 1948 which they rejected. The objections are solely based around the fact that Isreal exists as a Jewish State. Nothing less than the elimination of Israel will satisfy them. (Which if it were to happen, the Palestinians would still find themselves in refugee camps with no real nation of their own….The original area planned for them is now a part of Jordan)
Equating Eric’s comments with the Nazi’s is inaccurate and inappropriate. He is not calling ALL Arabs animals nor calling for their extermination. He is specifically referring to those who use and support the intentional targeting and killing of innocent men, women, and children. He is saying liberal jews are naieve and foolish, not calling for their execution. he is not saying they do it so we shoudl too. He is saying we need ot tak ehte steps necessary to protect our continued existence from people who have sworn to end it.

Israel won the area (disputed) it now occupies. We should be reminded
that it withdrew from the Sinai 3 times..in 56, 67 and 73, after defeating
a combination of armies bent on its destruction. Had the Arab won one war, we would not now be talking about liberal Jews.

liked the idea that Germany was pounding Russia, and the Jews.

Putting pressure on Israel, to do what? She has already offerred
the Palis a state, several times..Arafat and Abbas have answered
in true Arab style..violence, and the 3 nos, no peace, no recognition,
no compromise.
Even just this week, the P.M. of Israel gave his red lines..a Palis
state on most of the W. Bank and Gaza Strip, demilitarized except for
police weaponry, not allowed to make treaties with Israel’s enemies or
allow foreign armies, no division of Jerusalem, but Arab control of the
holy sites, economic cooperation between the two sides and NO SO-CALLED RIGHT OF RETURN (ALLOWING UNABATED 5M MUSLIMS TO
MOVE TO ISRAEL PROPER).
As expected, the Palis and their Arab supporters have turned the P.M.
proposals down flat, they want the 67 borders, East Jerusalem and millions
of Muslims living in Tel Aviv and it’s suburbs, as well as a huge army,
supplied with artillery, warplances, tanks, etc.
So again, the Palis have failed themselve to have a state..first in 48 and
now in 2009.
At the same time, J. Carter wants Obama to drop the terrorist
charge against Hamas, a group which openly expouses the destructionof the Jewish state ( now they say the 67 borders are okay, but with
the right of return).

Yeah, yeah, we all know that. But that doesn’t change the fact that the settlements are a serious obstacle to any kind of peace and are thwarting the Two-State Solution. The settlements also make a convenient excuse for the vitrilic rhetoric from the surrounding Arab despots. You can repeat the obvious all you like, but it doesn’t change other facts on the ground. Yes, the Palestinians have been attacking Israel from the beginning - they lost their homeland to them! What do you expect? It would be nice, and soooooo much better for all involved, if the Palestinians would employ peaceful rather than violent resistance to achieve a state, but that’s just not the way it is. But it certainly would go a long way if Israel would act like the adult on the block and do the righ thing by pulling out the settlements.

The point that I’m making is that over-the-top vitriol will only get worse and only make things worse. And he didn’t specify who he thought were animals, just for the record. He has consistantly referred to Arabs in general and Palestinians in particular in these terms.

The settlements are de facto hampering the Two State Solution. That is not a “red herring,” it’s an obvious fact.

I seriously doubt “most Palestinians” advocate the elimination of “all Jews.” That’s kinda pointless. But yes, a majority of them want their country back. Does that surprise you? It’s not realistic. it’s not going to happen. It’s going to be a sticking point for a long time. Given the history of the region, it may always be a sticking point. Pretty much every people on the Earth except maybe a small tribe of Pygmies in the Congo have at one time or another claimed that region as their own! Personally, I couldn’t imagine being bothered with it. If I was Jewish, I wouldn’t live there!

This is what I don’t understand. What exactly do you guys propose? What? I hear nothing. No new idea. Nothing. Endless fighting. Endless occupation. Endless tit-for-tat, back-and-forth, revenge-avenge, on and on an on and on. It’s like the Hatfields and the McCoys - and just as hickishly stupid. And anyone who points this out is called an anti-semite or a self-hating Jew or an “appeaser” of terrorism. The vitriol is so sick and stupid and offensive. You guys call Jimmy Carter an anti-semite! Jimmy Carter! The man doesn’t have an “anti-” bone in his body! This whole subject has become so irrational, so loony, so pointless. All logic goes out the window the minute the subject is raised.
Israel has all the cards. They have the military, the nukes, the occupied land, the biggest ally in the world.
Israel is the only nation with the impetus to get anything done. The Arab states thrive on the status quo, and the Palestinians have become so culturally ennured to endless war, they can’t even imagine another way of moving.
Israel says it’s a Democracy and a ”Jewish State.” It can NEVER be both of those things at the same time if it continues to occupy the West Bank. Period.
These are irrefutable facts. This is logic. You guys need to grow up and start using your heads. Your hearts may be in the right place, but your passion is overloading your capacity to reason. Thank guys, think.

Ok, lets think. The pressing question here is how do we cope with someone who wants to kill us? Do we pat them on the back and try to talk them out of killing us? Do we ask them why they want to kill us and promise to change? Do we give up and convert to their beliefs and join them and help them kill those that refuse to convert? Do we have a choice?
Observing what these people do to their own people who do not condon and aid them in their aspirations, I must say that converting and bowing to their wishes is probably the safest avenue. We can talk until our voices gravel out but talk will not change the desires of Jihad to kill us.
What we can do is convert and highjack some airplanes and fly them into some big important buildings in America and kill as many Americans as possible. Why? Because we are now Muslems and Jihad dictates that Americans are Satan and must die. Hey, little girl strap this bomb around you waist under your Muslem garb go into that mall over their blow yourself up and kill as many NON-MUSLEMS as possible. If you don’t do as you are told we will kill you and your intire family. Hey, Doctor we just killed a bunch of Jews and we are going to hide in your hospital and if you give us any trouble we will kill you. Hey, School teacher we are going to fire some rocket bombs from your class rooms and kill a bunch of Christians cause they are not following the laws of Allah and must die. If you give us any trouble we will kill you and all your students.
This is Jihad and we will do all these things in the name of Allah. Or, we could go on a CRUSADE and convert the Muslem world to Atheism. Religious people don’t care what Atheists believe or don’t believe. An Atheists don’t care what religious people believe or don’t believe. Maybe Atheism is the answer. If no one believed in anything there wouldn’e be any thing to argue about. Lets all denounce religion and evolve into the “Communist Man” and let the State tell us what to believe.

Lets get some facts straight. You keep talking about Palestinians losing their homeland and occupied territory. So it is their homeland not ours even though we were there first and got kicked out. Their 40 year old claim is more valid than our centuries old claim. many were share croppers and tenant farmers. So rent out a house I own, then decide to sell it to somebody else, the tenants have the right to remain there and keep it by force if necessary even though they are not the legal owners.
Give me a break. If you doubt the authenticity of our claim to that land one only need to look at archaeology. The fact that the Dome of The Rock is built over the ruins of the Temple should indicate something. So let’s not say they have the only legitmate claim to this land. As far as what they would do, one only needs to look at Gaza when Israel withdrew unitlaterally. Lets get real.
