Look man, I’ve been a C-Span junkie for decades, believe me, the “left,” whatever that is, despises the authoritarian, despotic, militaristic, aristocratic, theocratic regimes of the Middle East. But if you’re going to be a Realist, from whatever assuasion, you have to face the reality that the Arab world is not prime real estate. It was once their world. There’s no getting around that. Get it?

Because Kosovo involved a Muslim minority being ethnically cleansed from their homeland by Serbians clinging to the imaginary land of Yugoslavia. After Tito, Yugoslavia was doomed, as is Iraq after it’s authoritarian history. Iraq is barely a “nation.” Kosovo is like Albania - not optimal, but least semi-functional.

Regardless of any discussion of WMD it cannot be denied the Saddam had a repressive regime. If we were right to go into Kosovo we were right to go into Iraq on that justification alone.
